A Federal High Court sitting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State has granted an order restraining Governor Godwin Obaseki and the Edo State Government from enforcing the order on compulsory vaccination and use of COVID-19 vaccine passports in the state.
Following the directive to come up early next month, civil society organisations had mobilized residents of Benin City to demonstrate against the directive upon the claim that it was an infringement on their fundamental human rights.
However, the issue on Tuesday went into legal arbitration with a Port-Harcourt High Court granting a restraining order against Governor Obaseki and the Edo State Government from enforcing the directive that all residents who have not taken COVID-19 vaccines will be prevented from accessing churches, mosques, banks, event centres and other public places from the middle of September.
